Troubleshooting the Brass Next Generation Valve

There have been instances were the Next Generation Brass Valve is being viewed as leaking. Here are some troubleshooting tips regarding this valve:

  • Setting the water level of the Brass N/G Valve in the adjustment of the float by the thumb screw is very sensitive during installation of the unit. If the float is set low, the float does not create enough leverage on the plunger and the result is that the valve "will leak".
  • If the water level is set too high, the waterer will overflow and the valve will continue to run or "leak". It does take several adjustments to have the water level set correctly, the water level is only ever set one time, which is when the unit is installed.
  • The amount of time required for the Brass Next Generation Valve to come to a complete dead shut off can range up to 30-40 minutes. The amount of time required for the Brass Next Generation Valve to shut off completely is being seen by the installer as "leaking".
  • During the period of time that the Brass Next Generation Valve is filling the capacity of the waterer, the volume of water coming from the Brass Next Generation Valve starts at a very high volume and fills 90% of the total capacity very rapidly. As 90% of the capacity is filled, the volume of water coming from the valve reduces as the float rises in the water and pushes the plunger seat into the flow of water coming from the orifice, the additional 9% of the capacity is filled at a drastically reduced flow rate. The final 1% of the capacity is topped up and varying degrees of a slow drip, as the float continues to rise in the water to close the plunger seat into the dead shut off position in the orifice. Therefore, the 9% and certainly the final 1% may be seen as leaking, but isn't.
  • The installer has the lid removed from the Energy Free Next Generation waterer, during the set up process of the valve to the correct water level and is waiting to replace the lid until the valve is off. This is a different valve adjustment process from the old model of Energy Free Waterer. Previously the adjustment of the valve was made while the lid was in place through the access of the hatch cover. Therefore, the installer was less prone to watching the valve shut off completely as he could see that the doors were in the closed position and the hatch would be replaced and be less prone to watching the valve execute dead shut off.

The Brass Next Generation Valve requires a Float with a higher buoyancy rating to increase the amount of force on the plunger to close off the higher flow rate. The higher Flow Rate directly increases the amount of time for the Flow to be closed to a dead stop. The larger the surface area of the water in a model, the greater the amount of time required for the Brass Next Generation Valve requires to come to a dead shut off. (352NG up to 40 minutes, the BIGC will be 80 minutes or more).
